Market Farmers

Lohbrunner is proud to offer affordable land leases to two market farmers, helping to fulfill our purpose of providing access to viable land while promoting and supporting local food production.

Oloron Market Garden

Oloron Market Garden is a family affair and run by couple David Peddie and Jessica Knowler, with help from their kiddo Henry.

We farm one acre at LCFC and practice small-scale, certified organic farming. Dave is the primary farmer, who farms part-time including weeknights, to fit in farming with a full-time job. Jess loves working in the greenhouse and eating beautiful vegetables that Dave grows. Henry loves eating the strawberries and peas and spraying anything with the hose when given the opportunity.

We are constantly refining our practices and crop varieties to grow the best produce in the most sustainable way possible. We have been trialing no-till practices and moving our farm towards raised compost mulch beds.

We offer a community-supported agriculture (CSA) vegetable box, sell produce through South Island Farm Hub, and partner with the Glade Farm to sell vegetables at the Goldstream and Metchosin farmer’s markets.

If you would like to purchase our vegetables, please visit the SIFH website, the Goldstream and Metchosin farmer’s markets, or email us to learn more about our CSA program at oloronfarm@gmail.com.

The Glade

We are a 2-acre, transitional organic farm located on Vancouver Island. We farm on the unceded territories of Coast Salish, W̱SÁNEĆ, Te’mexw Treaty Association, and Lekwungen/Songhees. We are working everyday to educate ourselves on how we can do our part in taking care of the land we are on, how we can build and foster strong relationships with our community members, and how we can work towards being respectful, mindful and conscious of our part on these unceded territories.

As young farmers we have years ahead of us to learn and grow, we are always open to feedback, questions and conversations. No matter how hard they may be, we will always listen and work to be better and kinder in all that we do here.

The Glade Farm is a part of the Lohbrunner Community Farm Cooperative and strives to become a helpful and welcoming part of our community. Food justice and security are driving factors in our passion for farming and creating a more sustainable food system. We are a small farm in a very large farming community and we hope that our produce will help feed more of our community. We also hope that education that is offered in partnership with Lohbrunner Community Farm will allow us to learn and to share different perspectives within our community. We are a two person team, who would not be able to do all we do without the support of the amazing members of the Lohbrunner Co-op.

Ri is our full-time farmer and moved to Vancouver Island for school, in which they were able to volunteer with the farmers at Lohbrunner Community Farm and eventually become a farmer themselves. Having grown up in a small, rural Northern BC town, Ri is passionate about food security and becoming a part of a more sustainable food system that supports every member of the community. Sage is our other full-time farmer. Originally from interior BC, Sage is fairly new to farming but has grown just as much as the farm has in the past few years. Together we hope to bring delicious food to our community, making fresh, seasonal produce accessible and affordable.

If you’re interested in purchasing our veggies, you can find us at the Goldstream and Metchosin farmer’s markets, visit our Local Line online store, or reach out to us at thegladefarm@gmail.com.

From our hearts to yours,  Ri & Sage Thuja (The Glade Farm)
